Smartphone Reviews, Nokia G20 2022

HMD Global, as the sole licensee of the Nokia smartphone brand, decided to release six different series in the new naming system. For the middle class, the G series is prepared with nokia G20 as the best offer.

HMD promises the best features and capabilities of a smartphone that can be reached by more consumers, plus the most durable battery life and guaranteed software updates. Sounds pretty tempting, doesn't it? Unfortunately, the situation wasn't completely directly proportional when I tried the Nokia G20 for a few days.

Is it completely bad? Not really. But in an era where affordable Android smartphones are increasingly competitive, it's hard not to compare them to neighboring grass that is no less green. Is this smartphone suitable for Gizmo friends? Here's the full review.

In this section, it feels legitimate if HMD sells it as the main attraction. The Nokia G20 comes in two colors, the Night that looks bluish-black, and Glacier as I reviewed it, looks bright with a pattern that can also turn a little bluish when caught in light at a certain angle.

Instead of appearing plain, the rear body is given a striped texture, making it more attractive, adding grip and reducing fingerprint marks. The material itself is polycarbonate, weighing almost 200 grams and a thickness of 9.2mm. It feels a little sturdy when grasped due to its weight.

The camera module on the back has become a hallmark of Nokia Android smartphones, while the fingerprint sensor is on the right side alias fused with the power button. There were no complaints—instead I complained a little bit about the button on the other side. Shortcut alias to call google assistant.

New to the Nokia G20, this button is quite often accidentally pressed. Maybe because it's so big a button, especially if you're using a soft case. There's no day without a Google assistant sound because I call it without giving an order. Unfortunately there is no option to customize or turn off the button, hopefully it can come in the future.

Dimensionally, the Nokia G20 is quite a relief with a span of 6.52 inches. A wide screen will be perfect for streaming video content, multitasking to take online classes. Unfortunately, it is not supported with maximum panel quality.

Although it is IPS, the resolution is only HD + with a standard refresh rate of 60Hz. The look still uses a waterdrop notch, with a slightly thick bezel at the bottom—for this one, other competitors are the same, anyway. But not a few can also provide a higher resolution and refresh rate.

At least it is still okay for daily use, saturation is enough and the brightness is still safe when used outdoors. There is no protection from Gorilla Glass, but there is already a scratch resistant coating installed from the manufacturer.

Considering the class of Nokia G20 is lower than the Nokia 5.4, my expectations regarding the photo and video performance of this new Nokia smartphone camera are quite guarded. Setup is quite complete, there are four cameras with a main sensor resolution of 48MP f / 1.8.

The other three complementary sensors are a 5MP ultra wide-angle sensor, a 2MP macro & 2MP depth sensor, while on the front is prepared an 8MP camera for selfie needs. The camera interface is also quite simple but also has extra options.

Want to give a custom watermark as you wish? Can. In portrait mode, there is also an option to replace blur effects with various patterns. And what about the photos? Although high resolution, it's good to use the Nokia G20 camera only in sufficient lighting conditions.

Although it is equipped with night mode (which is only available for the main sensor), not infrequently the results are seen just raising the ISO, with noise that is still high. You also have to be completely silent when taking photos so that the results are not blurry or shaken.

The ultra wide-angle sensor will be very smooth in indoor conditions, considering its resolution is only 5MP. For the full photo, you can access the following album.

Both the front camera and the rear camera of the Nokia G20 can both record up to a full HD resolution of 30fps. Unfortunately, it is not equipped with software-based stabilization or EIS. The advantage, there is OZO Audio technology that can capture sound stereo.

If you are looking for a clean Android smartphone without most of the built-in features or applications, nokia G20 is absolutely the best option. Because, this device runs stock Android based on Android 11. HMD provides a guarantee of two years of OS updates and three years of monthly security.

In other words, there aren't many extra features you can find on this smartphone. Although the built-in features are also quite complete, including screen recording that is already available. Another advantage is the presence of NFC sensors for payment methods without direct contact.

For audio quality, the mono speakers on the lower body of the Nokia G20 are very basic, rather just tight. While the output of the 3.5mm audio jack is inversely proportional, it can provide maximum quality when I connect with the ROG Cetra II Core.

The Nokia G20 runs an entry-grade chipset from MediaTek, the Helio G35 octa-core 12nm with the fastest CPU Cortex-A53 at 2.3GHz clockspeed. Combined with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a dedicated microSD card slot. Alias can be paired with two nano SIM cards.

Although the chipset is entry class, the performance is still okay for light daily use such as social media, messaging applications, office applications and the like. It's just that the performance is not the fastest, although I hope so considering the use of lighter Android stock.

Make playing games like PUBG Mobile, as long as you use low graphics, of course, it is still smooth. The body temperature is maintained aka not easily hot, most only warm at the edge of the rear body.

For the 5,050 mAh battery capacity carried by the Nokia G20, the battery life is arguably above the average smartphone with a battery of its size. Although indeed, it has not reached the promise delivered by HMD, it is claimed to be up to 3 days of use.

Maybe if the daily use is very light anyway, yes. But for my use, connecting the Nokia G20 with a smartwatch, NFC is always active and daily camera use, at least lasts up to 1.5 days before I finally need to recharge.

Unfortunately, fast charging support is not yet available, aka limited to 10W only. That way, the process of charging from the battery is almost exhausted to full takes about 3 hours.

Smartphone Reviews, Nokia G20 2022

Still the same as the previous mid-range smartphone offerings that are officially present in Indonesia, nokia G20 is suitable for a very limited circle. Those who are looking for a stylish smartphone, running android stock with higher security guarantees and complete sensors such as NFC.

The camera is not the best, as are other parts such as screen and performance. The term, if just looking for a device that has the highest specifications in the same price range, is not a suitable choice. But if you are more concerned with the previous points, then the Nokia G20 could be the best choice at this time.

With the stock of Android and NFC, these two points are the main reasons that make the Nokia G20 attractive. If Gizmo friends ignore both, then there are still many competitors who are more 'fresh'.
