Smartphone Reviews, Motorola Moto E7i Power 2021

so if your finances are anything like mine that probably means all of your assets are currently liquid and by liquid i mean basically you spent all of your money on lockdown whiskey but no worries if you do find you are stony skinty broke and in sudden dire need of a fresh new smartphone because i'm about to check out the cheapest handset i've covered here on techspert in 2021 the motorola motor e7i power it cost you just 79 quid when it hits the uk from the likes of argos and amazon gonna whip it on out of the box right now taking a full on tour of the hardware and the software to see if the motorola motor e7i really is good value for money or just hot garbage and for more on the latest and greatest deck please do poke subscribe and hitting that notifications bell cheers so first up let's see what you actually get in the box and of course there is one more the mortal e7i power a bit of pop-up three-pin plug action oh it's a stiff one oh there we go and a bit of usb cable action to go along with that and yes thank the baby jesus it is type c not micro usb oh does that mean then that even when a sub 100 pound smartphone comes with type c we have seen the last of micro usb can only get on ease and prey and that is it for the box contents uh so there's no bundled condom case with the motorola moto e7i power i guess because it's that a little bit cheaper than your standard motorola handset.

Motorola Moto E7i Power review: Design

now you hopefully won't be too surprised to learn that the motorola moto e7i power is constructed from plastic which wraps around the back and those edges as well it's a nice seamless experience this is the very funky jazzily named tahiti blue model but you can also grab the moto e7i power in coral red so two nice vibrant options which is good to see especially here in the uk and the e7i power is a 6.5 inch handset so it's a bit of a handful but nothing worse than most other budget smartphones to be fair decent heft to it as well so it doesn't feel toy like construction seems to be nice and sturdy and despite the fact that the mortal e7i power is super budget under a hundred pounds you still get more rollers now pretty much trademark ip52 splash resistant design so that means if you do happen to knock your pint over it touchwoods give it a quick scrub off on your jeans or whatever should be absolutely fine there's no pre-installed screen protector on the moto e7i power though and it's not gorilla glass or anything so you will have to be careful with it if you don't want to scratch it up or of course just bung your own screen protector on there and let's have a squint inside of the model e7i power as well see what the lights the sim tray holds it looks pretty straight forward stuff so you've got a dual sim support here on the moto e7i power otherwise alternatively you can slip a micro sd memory card into that second sim slot to expand the onboard storage all right so let's power up the mod roller moto e7i power and take you on a full on tour of the rest of the specs try out a good bit of gaming test out the camera all that good stuff love it.

Motorola Moto E7i Power review: Android and features

okay so just finished setting up the motorola moto e7i power looks like a couple of the widgets still just uh playing a bit of catch up there what we got here is a bit of android go action so it's a slightly more efficient streamlined version of android designed for more budget friendly smartphones like the e7i power unfortunately it is running android 10 not the latest android 11. so yeah as you can see there android 10 not the latest freshest version of google's mobile os when is android 11 coming i couldn't even tell you don't even know if it's actually going to come to this smartphone i wouldn't hold your breath uh this is how it looks when it's uh it's all set up i don't know what this elephant is doing on uh is that a little moped that's certainly different you can't fully customize the look and feel of the uh the mod roll you can actually remove that search bar entirely if you want to which you couldn't always do with android go smartphones let's get rid of the likes of duo as well rearrange the icons all that good stuff a few long presses where you can go to home settings and you've got a small selection of settings that you can tinker about with it is quite basic though you can't mess around with the grid sizes or anything sadly good to see that widget finally caught up uh and of course can change up the wall paper as well which i'm going to do right now the only question is which cura suit do i go for yeah i think that'll do the job nicely and what the good things about motorola smartphones as well as nokia smartphones in fact you've got this lovely stock version of android you've got no crapware piled on here so pretty much all these apps that i've downloaded they're basically the google apps or apps that i've installed myself now usually on modular smartphones you get the moto experiences app which allows you to customize the phone even further adding some great gesture support and the rest sadly that's not the case here on the moto e7i power it's a bit too basic for that that said you do have a limited amount of gesture support added on here so for instance you can swipe down the notifications by using the fingerprint sensor house here on the back end of the phone that just works like so seems to do the job nicely otherwise of course you can just swipe it down from anywhere on screen and oh yeah you do get my favorite as well the karate chop torch that didn't work why is this not working god damn it oh there we go i think i was just being a bit too enthusiastic with my chops or something yeah there we go and speaking of that rear mounted fingerprint sensor as well that seems to do the job absolutely fine for waking up the smartphone it does take a little while between tapping your digits and the phone actually waking up but nothing too horrendous at least it's an alternative to entering the bloody pin every time and suddenly there's no fierce unlock support but that's not a massive shock again at this sort of price point as far as the other features go well quite a basic uh set overall you've only got single band wi-fi not dual band unfortunately and there's no nfc support either so you won't be able to use the motorola moto e7i power for your contactless payments you do get all the standard android gore stuff on there such as for instance uh the dark theming of course you've got your digital well-being mode all that good stuff you may have noticed here on the right edge you've got three buttons you've got the power button the volume rocker and also this mysterious third button well that is a dedicated google assistant button so give that a little push and up it pops and i still don't know what the point of these physical google assistant buttons is because you can easily access the assistant by swiping up from the bottom corner like so you've also got a an app icon shortcut to it so i don't know kurosu tell me why why is this thing a thing she don't know either as for the storage well you do just get 32 gigs on here um as standard unfortunately and as you can see a good chunk of that is used up just by a handful of apps that i've already downloaded but you can boost that with a microsd memory card up to one terabyte in size in fact so plenty of space and oh yeah thankfully you can get rid of that navigation bar down below as well and use a bit gesture navigation action instead uh which i just find much neater and easier.

Motorola Moto E7i Power review: Display and audio

now let's check out the motorola moto e7i powers display and it's a 6.5 inch ips panel perfectly standard stuff for this sort of price point in fact just as good as some displays you'll see for double the price it's an hd plus resolution 720p so not full hd so yeah you don't get the crispest finest details uh you know when you're checking out your photos when you're watching a bit of netflix or whatever but it's not a bad picture either certainly absolutely fine just for kicking back with a shore or you know doing a little bit of light photo editing before you post a picture online whatever you want to do viewing angles are okay on that top brightness it'll just about be fine for outdoors use on a sunshine he did it's not exactly eye serum but it's not weak either you do get quite chunky bezels surrounded especially down below it's quite a fat lip but thankfully the nipple notch up top which is a bit of a blast from the past in itself doesn't intrude too much on the action when you do go full screen if you dive on into the motor e7 eyes display settings you do have a limited amount of control here but it doesn't really seem to make a massive amount of difference you've got the increased contrast option which i've got admit does bugger all to my knack at all peepers no way of changing the screen refresh rate though because that is stuck at 60 hertz for his 90 hertz option as you would kind of expect for under 100 quid likewise when it comes to the audio don't be expecting a stereo speaker output or anything here on the motorola moto e7i power in fact it's actually a rear mounted speaker which i haven't seen on a budget small phone in quite some time it could be quite easily muffled with your fingers just try and keep your finger away from that let's bump up the volume see what we're working with so if you're lucky enough to leave it in quite a large homestead definitely recommend getting a mesh wi-fi network so probably half because that audio has been pumped away from your face it is quite a muted uh output definitely not the the loudest on that top volume be absolutely fine for you know kicking back with some youtube or whatever in a fairly quiet environment but the good news is anyway you've got that headphone jack up top so you can plug in a proper wide pair of headphones otherwise bluetooth 4.2 support so quite all bluetooth but should hopefully prove all right for your wireless connections as well.

Motorola Moto E7i Power review: Performance and battery life

now performance is always a fun topic with super budget smartphones and of course here on the motorola moto e7i power it is rather limited it's actually powered by a unisoc sc 9863 ear chipset very catchy name there guys you'll find this on a handful of other super budget smartphones from likes of tcl alcatel zte etc uh and as you can see there from the geekbench scores very simple basic performance i've already noticed quite a few little stumbles and stammers here and there it'll be absolutely fine just you know for doing your social medias uh doing your messaging all that good stuff as long as you're fairly patient and you know willing to put up with uh not exactly super silky smooth performance but because i haven't personally tested this chipset before what i am going to do is give a bit of call of duty mobile ago and see if i stand any chance whatsoever against the legions of unwashed school kids who should actually just about be staggering home from a hard day's slog of algebra and whatever else it is that kids learn at school these days so it looks like unsurprisingly we're very limited when it comes to the graphics settings here on call of duty mobile basically you've got a choice of lore and that's it for the graphics quality okay so far touchwood seems fine nice smooth frame rate screen seems responsive jesus christ where did that come from oh god there's someone behind me ah first blood that's a good start double kill i'm being shot from behind oh there he is oh god there's two of them oh thankfully these guys suck oh christ always fun all right so you know what that was absolutely fine uh call of duty mobile of course on those lore detail settings played absolutely perfectly not a single uh proper stammer that would take you out of the game and actually hamper your performance screen responsiveness is absolutely fine uh so yeah if you just want to do a light bit of gaming uh on a smartphone oh it seems to have locked up there we go i actually got the uh actually someone managed to get mvp as well um so yes if you want to do a bit of light gaming then the motorola moto e7i.

power is up to snap that's for the battery turquoise it's a 5 000 milliamp capacity cell stuffed inside the e7i power and that combined with the energy efficient android go setup plus that energy efficient chipset as well means that should last you all day long no worries even with lots of heavy use and yet it's just 10 watts uh wired charging here on the moto e7i power but what you expected this sort of price point at least it is type c usb not like got awful micro usb nonsense book spit spits bit.

Motorola Moto E7i Power review: Cameras

and last up the rear camera and what you get slapped here on the r center is a dual lens setup it's a 13 megapixel primary effort with phase detection auto focus backed by a 2 megapixel macro vision lens it's a very simple straightforward camera app experience here on the model e7i power as you would expect and that's absolutely fine by me so you've got all of your main sort of toggles and features down here at the bottom so fast easy access with one-handed action you've got manual modes you can play around with the likes the eyesore levels the white balance as well if you like as you see the effects right there on the screen do also have an hdr mode as well if you are dealing with strong contrast you'll stick that on they'll probably take a bit longer to actually shoot and process a photo in that mode you do have a handful of other mods as well including a good old portrait mode which just adds a bit of bokeh style action in the background you even have a dedicated night vision mode as well but of course as this is a basic budget handset don't exactly expect it to do wonders and then yes you've got that macro lens as well if you want to get a really up-close shot of your subject but this is a basic 2 megapixel effort it's going to be a bit low-res and crap and i had a quick uh test out of the model e7i powers camera just around the old homestead and yeah pretty basic uh results as you'd expect quite low res grainy picks at times especially when shooting indoors colour capture isn't exactly super accurate but as long as you're not expecting much just you want you know a very simple straightforward everyday shooter it's absolutely fine and then if we swap to a video well again you're quite limited just as you are in the uh the good old photo mod go to the settings you can see uh it does capture full hd video by default at least so that's something it's not just stuck on 720p but again i would expect pretty basic stuff overall and then last up let's just swap to that front facing selfie cam and you've got again a very basic eight megapixel shooter right there so again fine for your sort of everyday little simple snaps maybe some uh quick and easy facebook efforts or something like that and as you can see there you'll need to keep your hand pretty still if you don't want a blurry fuzzy shot to be fair at the very least it hides all those wrinkles so there you have it that in a nutshell is motorola's fresh new moto e7i power and to be fair if you want something that's just gonna be a basic everyday handset for messaging and social medias or something you can take away to festivals now that they're a thing you don't mind if it ends up in the cozy or something like that then job done you can't push it uh to the very limits you know streaming a good bit of video action playing the likes of call of duty mobile even works absolutely fine on this thing so definitely impressive stuff for well under 100 quid just bear in mind that the performance will be a bit stuttery a bit juddery and uh of course don't expect much from that camera tech either but that's what i think of the motorola moto e7i power.
